The name "Diamond" comes from the ancient Greek word "adamao" and it means invincible and indestructible, which describes very well his fantastic qualities. Actually the diamond is formed when exposed to high temperature carbon is pressured for the long period of time (starting from 150 kilometers under the continental crust and temperature of 1200 degrees Celsius) The Diamond is the hardest natural material and the hardest transparent substance in the world.
It can be almost any color (yellow and brown are the most common.), but the rarest ones are the colorless diamonds, which makes them more valuable. The history of the diamond is as long as its popularity.
During the different times and cultures, diamond has also been associated with lightning, magic, healing, protection, and even poisoning.
Centuries ago, surrounded with magical powers, the diamond was only Kings and Royalty possession. Become a symbol of love and it was worshipped, because it was believed that diamonds were parts of stars and the teardrops of the Gods. When in 15th century Archduke Maximilian of Austria gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy, diamond engagement ring was introduced.
One of the most common uses of the diamonds nowadays is for beauty jewels and decorations. The diamond pendant was famous adornment for royal persons. The most popular diamond pendant is probably the Hope diamond pendant.
In 1668 a french merchant-traveler sold the diamond, originally mined from the Kollur mine in Golconda, India, to King Louis XIV of France.
When Louis XVI of France became king, he gave the diamond to Marie Antoinette to add to her collection of jewelry. During the French Revolution, while Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were held in prison, the pendant with the diamond was stolen on 1792, when few men stole the crown jewels.
The road of the Hope diamond pendant was very long and interesting. Deep blue colored and with his 45 carats, the Hope diamond pendant is still suspected of containing a curse for his owners and they are false rumors that noone can take a clear photograph of it. Finally the Hope diamond found his home in Smithsonian History Museum in the United States there are no unusual incidents relating to it.
